Frontrunner for governor promises ‘Light Train’ line to Guadalajara airport

Movimiento Ciudadano gubernatorial candidate Pablo Lemus is racking up promises faster than you count them — at least 70 at current reckoning.

pg7aHis latest vow is to build the city’s “fifth light train” route running from El Salto, via (or at least close to) the Guadalajara Airport, Alamo intersection, Agua Azul Park and Minerva Glorieta, as far as the Akron Stadium on the western outskirts of the metropolitan area.

Eyebrows were raised when he claimed that the 30-kilometer line could be started as soon as he takes office (October 1, should he win the election), and completed by July 2026, in time for the Soccer World Cup, when first-round games will be held at the Akron Stadium.

Making the announcement at the second debate among Jalisco’s three candidates for governor, Lemus said the new line would run alongside the existing railway track that is used exclusively for freight.

The MC candidate, who is leading polls by an average of around seven points from the Morena alliance’s Claudia Delgadillo, said the line would cost 13.3 billion pesos, and not require any road closures during its construction.
