Distinction for cats

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has declared the 19 cats that live in Mexico City’s National Palace “living fixed assets.”

This distinction, which normally applies to buildings or valuable objects, has been granted for the first time to animals. The declaration obliges the federal government to take charge of their maintenance and care for life.

Prison for medical student

A medical student in Jalisco has been jailed for three years and three months for “negligent homicide” after he admitted participating in a clandestine liposuction surgery on a woman who subsequently died.  In May 2023, Jorge “V” and two others — one who had graduated from medical school but was unlicensed — carried out a liposuction  procedure on Georgina Nayelli at a business/restaurant property in Tepatitlán de Morelos. At the time Jorge “V”  was in the eighth semester of his medical studies at a private university located in Zapopan, but had not attended any classes for six months. Nayelli, who was found lifeless at the property where the procedure was performed, reportedly died from acute myocardial infarction.  The two other participants, named as Kevin “A” and Jennifer “A,” are currently fugitives.

Flights to Boston

Delta and Aeromexico recently celebrated the launch of their new service between Boston (BOS) and Mexico City (MEX) during a ceremony at Logan International Airport. This highly anticipated route, operated by Aeromexico, marks the airline’s return to the Massachusetts capital.
