100 years young!

Felicidades and many happy returns to Elsie Sherburn who celebrated her 100th birthday last Friday at a lively celebration hosted by her daughter Linda and husband John Betz at the El Parque club house.

Charities unite to help educate a new generation

Two Lakeside charities, Tepehua Centro Comunitario and  UVA (University Vocational Assistance) Scholarship Fund, have joined forces to provide scholarships to local students who are academically qualified but in need of financial assistance to attend a university or other accredited learning institution.

The civic group Guadalajara 2020 says at least 5,000 people used to cycle from Guadalajara to Chapala each Sunday but that number has diminished to less than half over recent years due to the lack of road safety along the busy highway.

DIF Chapala fetes local seniors

August 28 is a date set aside all across Mexico for paying tribute to senior citizens, alternatively known as Dia del Abuelo or Dia del Adulto Mayor. To mark the occasion this year, Chapala’s DIF family development center hosted a big celebration for the community’s elders on Friday, August 30.
