'Canelo' ready to step up the ladder
It was a hugely satisfying Mexican Independence Day for Guadalajara’s 22-year-old boxing sensation Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, who pocketed two million dollars after destroying Josesito Lopez in five rounds to retain his WBC Light Middleweight crown at a sold-out MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas.
The Osos (Bears) de Jaliaco, Guadalajara’s new basketball franchise, played their first home game Thursday, loosing heavily to 2011/12 champions Xalapa Falcons 76-110 at the Code Dome.
The much-awaited return of professional basketball to Guadalajara contained all the mandatory ingredients: former NBA stars, animated cheerleaders, a lively crowd and thumping music.
