U.S. citizen Charles Edward Candy, 61, was pronounced dead at the scene following a head-on collision with a dump truck that occurred Thursday, June 2, at the outskirts of San Juan Cosala, just east of the Piedra Barrenada’s lakefront restaurant zone.

The Chapala government has flunked a comprehensive test of its transparency performance, ranking in next to last place among 22 Jalisco communities evaluated by the Citizens Collective for Transpearent Municipalities (CIMTRA).

Ajijic voters favored Jesús “Chuni” Medeles Córdova as the candidate of choice in the June 5 referendum for the position of town administrator (delegado). Medeles racked up 635 votes among the 1,344 valid ballots cast in Sunday’s election. He defeated his closest rival, Cristina Gómez Padilla, by 114 votes. Alejandro Martínez Velázquez placed a distant third with 188 votes.

Social activist Esther Solano has launched a movement to collect signatures calling for the state congress to initiate a juicio politico (impeachment proceeding) against Chapala Mayor Javier Degollado for allowing the massive butchering of local trees.

The Chapala government has finally moved the pieces to hold an express public referendum on the selection of delegados (administrators) to serve in the towns of Ajijic, Atotonilquillo, San Antonio Tlayacapan, San Nicolás de Ibarra and Santa Cruz de la Soledad. The voting process will take place Sunday, June 5, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the central plaza of each locality.
