As the politicking revs up before the June 2 elections, it will become almost impossible to block out the torrent of outrage espousing from candidates regarding criminality and the weak impartation of justice in Mexico.

Relatives of a Mexican/British resident of Qatar, reportedly detained for being gay, held a protest outside the British Embassy in Mexico City last weekend.   

February 29, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador inaugurated the 50.1-kilometer “Section Five” of the Maya Tourist Train, running from the Cancún Airport to Playa del Carmen. For the time being, there are three daily departures from the airport to Playa del Carmen, at 10:30 a.m., 1:30 and 4:30 p.m.

Even though it seems that many candidates have already been on the campaign trail for months, the period when hopefuls running for various governmental offices are let off the leash to “legally” canvass voters for their support kicks off on Friday, March 1.

Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has been fiercely criticized for revealing the telephone number of a journalist from The New York Times who contributed to an article saying that his failed 2006 presidential campaign was partly funded by the Sinaloa drug cartel, and that he was subsequently investigated by U.S. authorities.

A comparison is often drawn between migrants who look for a better life in the United States, and Americans flooding into countries such as Mexico to live as digital nomads, searching for greater economic freedom or an enriched life experience.
