Jalisco State Congress employees ended a sit-in this week after being promised payment of their final two-week paychecks and end-of-session bonuses. 

Around 500 people were evacuated from their homes in the village Corralillos near Zapotlanejo, Jalisco after a Pemex gas pipeline caught fire Thursday, October 19.

In one of the current legislature’s final sessions, the Jalisco Congress unanimously passed the Protection of the Health of Nonsmokers Act this week.

Politicians, academics and activists gathered Wednesday at the State Congress to fete the passage of new legal reforms.

In order to officially certify their products as “Made in Jalisco,” local manufacturers must now pay 2,705 pesos per year.
