Rainy season good to Lake Chapala

Lake Chapala benefited from above average precipitation registered during the 2015 rainy season, recuperating 1.45 meters on the water elevation scale during the wet summer and fall months, up by 16 centimeters compared to last year.

San Andres fiestas street alert

As Ajijic’s festivities get going this weekend (see story page 16), local motorists will have to find ways to bypass principal north-south thoroughfares and follow alternate routes to reach many destinations in the center of town until the end of the month. Calle Colon will be closed to through traffic between Zaragoza and Ocampo.

LCS sets second student aid summit

Maintaining its commitment to enhance educational opportunities for worthy Mexican students of limited means, the Lake Chapala Society (LCS) will host a second mini-summit for organizations and individuals involved in local financial aid programs. The date is Wednesday, December 16, 10 a.m. to noon, at the LCS campus.

Ajijic plaza revamp back on track

At long last, the Chapala government has dispatched workmen to move forward on the incomplete remodeling of the Ajijic plaza. The crew has been busy all week finishing the flooring inside and around the bandstand kiosk, slapping fresh paint on garden railings and refurbishing park benches dotting the square. Labors to wrap up the project will resume after the village quiets down from the San Andrés fiestas.
