Talented local musicians of different genres showcased each Monday.
January 14: Cuarteto Yaracuy from Venezuela. January 21: María Contreras Palomar, a Guadalajara singer currently studying music in New York, interprets the songs of Italian pop singer Laura Pausini. January 28: The Cuarteto Janus, directed by Christopher Wilshere, perform works by Bottesini and Francaix.

Live from the Met
The New York Metropolitan Opera kicks off 2019 with “Adriana Lecouvreur,” featuring Anna Netrebko in the title role of the real-life French actress who dazzled 18th-century audiences with her on-and-offstage passion. The soprano is joined by tenor Piotr Beczała as Adriana’s lover, Maurizio. The principal cast also features mezzo-soprano Anita Rachvelishvili and baritone Ambrogio Maestri. Gianandrea Noseda conducts.

Joan Manuel Serrat
Barcelona-born folk and protest singer, now 75, still has a huge following in the Spanish-speaking world. He sings in both Spanish and Catalan, and has been widely influenced by various Latin American poets, including Chile’s Pablo Neruda and Spain’s Antonio Machado.

Gaetano Donizetti’s “La Fille du Régiment” sees tenor Javier Camarena and soprano Pretty Yende team up for a feast of bel canto vocal fireworks– including the show-stopping tenor aria “Ah! Mes amis,” with its nine high Cs. Alessandro Corbelli and Maurizio Muraro trade off as the comic Sergeant Sulpice, with mezzo-soprano Stephanie Blythe as the outlandish Marquise of Berkenfield. Enrique Mazzola conducts.
