While boomers will no doubt insist on the superiority of the original trilogy of films (1977, 1980, 1983), subsequent generations have been captivated by a succession of follow-ups: the prequel trilogy (1999, 2002, 2005) and the sequel trilogy (2015, 2017, 2019), plus two stand-alone films (2016, 2018) and an animated feature.
