New York Jazz

The Anthony Hervey Quartet restarts the New York Jazz All-Stars program following the Easter break.

A trumpeter, composer and teacher from South Florida, Hervey was recognized by Grammy.com as one of “10 emerging artists to know in 2023.”  Legend Wynton Marsalis described Hervey as a “beautiful trumpet player of the first magnitude.”

Shen Yun

The Shen Yun company brings to life 5,000 years of Chinese civilization, dynasties and legends through classical Chinese dance and music in an exhilarating show. Ethnic and folk dances fill the stage with color and energy. Tremendous athleticism, thunderous battle drums and masterful vocalists are all set to animated backdrops that transport the audience to another world.  Featuring nearly 100 artists, 400 handmade costumes, and a live orchestra with Western and Chinese instruments.

Butoh

Butoh choreographers Guyphytsy Aldalai and Aura Arreola present Inmarcesibles.  Butoh is a dance and somatic movement approach that emerged in Japan in the 1960s that, due to its stylistic idiosyncrasies and lack of a formalized movement vocabulary, is often referred to among its practitioners and in the literature as an indeterminate or ‘formless’ dance.

Met Live

The Met Live in HD transmission of Madama Butterfly features soprano Asmik Grigorian tackles the demanding role of Cio-Cio-San, the loyal geisha at the heart of Puccini’s devastating tragedy. Tenor Jonathan Tetelman stars as the callous American naval officer Pinkerton, whose betrayal destroys her.

David Garrett

Well-known German classical and crossover violinist and recording artist comes to the city as part of his Iconic Tour 2024.  The tour is inspired by legendary violinists whose gems and soulful melodies thrilled Garrett as a child. Music by Bach, Dvořák, Gluck, Kreisler, Mendelssohn and Schumann, to name but a few, can be heard in new arrangements for violin, guitar and orchestra. Garrett will play the program for the first time in a trio together with guitar and bass in concert.  He says his choice of music evokes the golden era of violin virtuosi, when performers such as Zino Francescatti, Arthur Grumiaux and Yehudi Menuhin delighted audiences with popular encores and other miniatures.

Expect a rousing show from this Mexican contemporary classical percussion group founded in 1993. Recipients of numerous awards, Tambuco has a repertoire ranging from structuralist percussion music to a wide range of ethnic drum music and avant garde.
