Museum opens space dedicated to blasts

This week, the Museo de la Ciudad (Calle Independencia 684) opened a new permanent exhibit of photographs and material related to the April 22, 1992 sewer line explosions.  Many of the images on show were taken by local news photographers, including Jose Hernandez Claire, who won several international awards for his work on that fateful day.  The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. 20 pesos entry fee.


Dance spectacle at Degollado

Jalisco’s only professional dance troupe, the Joven Ballet,  will present a double bill in honor of International Dance Day at Guadalajara’s Teatro Degollado on Saturday, April 25, 8 p.m. The ballet “Scheherazade,” with choreography by Mark Godden, will be followed by Balanchine’s” Who Cares?” set to the songs of of George Gershwin.  Tickets cost 50-200 pesos.

Sleeping Beauty

After last year’s success, Joven Ballet de Jalisco, Guadalajara’s professional resident ballet company, will recreate its spectacular outdoor production of the classic fairy tale “Sleeping Beauty” to the beautiful music of Tchaikovsky in the majestic central patio of the Cabañas Institute. 

Instituto Cultural Cabañas, Thursday, April 9 through Sunday, April 12, and Thursday, April 16 through Sunday, April 19, 8:30 p.m.  100-300 pesos, available at Degollado box office or through Tickemaster. Limited senior and student discounts available. 

US, Canadian celebs drop by city’s Film Festival finale

Although audiences were down slightly this year, the Guadalajara International Film Festival ended on a high note last weekend as a slew of celebrities (mostly minor ones) flew in for the final shindig and prize-giving ceremonies.
