Rising US soprano tackles namesake at Degollado

According to operanews.com, when Amber Wagner sings, “her voice pours out big, beautiful arcs of sound, making the operas of Wagner, Verdi and Richard Strauss seem like a natural fit for her.”

Guadalajara audiences will get a chance to hear the highly-rated California-born soprano sing in next weekend’s Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra program, cutely titled “Wagner con Amber Wagner.”

Fans of the German composer will hear Wagner (no relation) interpret pieces from Der Fliegende Holländer, Lohengrin, Die Walküre, Tannhäuser and Tristan und Isolde, among other operas.

Wagner is a winner of the 2007 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions Grand Finals and was featured in the 2009 documentary film “The Audition.” She has taken in lead roles in operas across the United States, as well as in Europe.

JPO Musical Director Marco Parisotto will be conducting.

Teatro Degollado, Friday, March 27, 8:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 29, 12:30 p.m. 110-200 pesos.
