Ajijic will host the second annual Festival Cultural Sangre Viva, a three-day program of activities set for next weekend showcasing a wide range of modern artistic manifestations that have evolved from Mexico’s indigenous roots.
The event will be headquartered at the town’s waterfront Malecon, running Friday, March 30 through Sunday, April 1.
More than 100 exhibitors are lined up for the art and craft sales expo that will be open to the public all three days from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. A variety of free workshops be also be offered in the same time frame.
Diverse musical genres will be featured in the live concerts and dance performances on Friday and Saturday evenings. Shows start at 6 p.m., with the modest price of admission set at 50 pesos per person.The March 30 slate offers appearances by the Mariachi Tradicional Acatíc, the percussion and dance group Makemba, the pre-Hispanic music and danza troupe Chichimeca Jonaz, IsaKoatl with metalmexica sounds and Chapala’s own Charales-K ska band.
Acts scheduled for March 31 include Funky Munky with ska, funk and rock tunes, Jarocho style tunes of Veracruz by Cucalambé, pre-Hispanic instrumental sounds by Tribu, Cosmodanza with a multimedia dance and music spectacle, and Leones Negros y Atletas Campesinos with a set of reggae-fusion.
