Mariachi Festival coming to Ajijic

After a four year hiatus, Guadalajara’s International Mariachi Festival returns to Lakeside next month with a special concert slated for Saturday, September 1, 7 p.m. at Ajijic’s Huerta de Serna Events Salon. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Chapala Red Cross.

Booked under the auspices of the Chapala branch of the Guadalajara Chamber of Commerce (Canaco), the show will feature performances by two guest mariachi bands from abroad, one national group and a local ballet folklorico dance troupe.

The 150 peso per person price of admission includes a free welcome cocktail. Additional drinks will be available from the cash bar. Throughout the evening hungry guests will find an array of typical Mexican dinner fare offered at the taco and antojitos bar to be set up on site by various local restaurants.

To add to the fun, Canaco Chapala president Yolanda Martinez will award a prize to the person in the audience donning the most attractive rebozo shawl.  A security detail from the Chapala police department is lined up to stand guard at the event.

Tickets for the mariachi spectacle are now on sale at the following locations:  Yoli’s Unisex Beauty Salon, Pinturas Prisa, Barbara’s Bazaar, Diane Pearl Gallery and Plaza Suites, all in Ajijic, and the Cruz Roja Clinic in Chapala.

The Chapala Canaco office, Carretera Oriente 3-A, Ajijic, is handling tickets for the Ajijic show as well as purchase orders for the Mariachi Fesitval gala concerts scheduled in the Guadalajara metro area.  Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, telephones 766-3528 and 766-2784.
