Scotiabank Music Festival back in auditorium

In a last-minute turnaround, organizers of the Scotiabank Northern Lights Music Festival have  moved five major concerts back to their traditional stomping grounds of the Auditorio de la Ribera del Lago in Ajijic.

Fearful that renovation work at the 30-year-old auditorium might not be finished before the February 16 to March 2 music festival, the organizing committee had booked the Chapala Media Park and the Instituto Teconologico for several of their programs.

With the assurance that all work will be finished on time, the committee has decided to eschew the alternative venues for the auditorium located in La Floresta.

The five concerts now back at the auditorium are “Keyed Fantasies” on Tuesday, February 19, the “Gala Orchestra Concert” on Friday, February 22, the “Jazz at Sunset” concert on Monday, February 25, “Going for Baroque” on Tuesday, February 26 and the “Closing Gala” on Friday, March 1.

The festival will present 15 events in total, with a new salon series featuring chamber music in elegant local homes to limited audiences.

General ticket sales will start on February 1. They can be purchased at the Lake Chapala Society (LCS) Tickets, Etc. booth Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to noon, and at Charter Club Tours in Plaza Montana, Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“We’re excited that we’ll be among the first to experience what we’re anticipating as a great improvement to the auditorium,” said Rosanne Wilshere, festival publicist. “It’s going to be exciting and a wonderful new experience for all of our music lovers.”
