Quirky, black comedy comes complete with gourmet dinner

Exceptional gourmet dining and professional theater combine at the Viva Mexico Restaurante in San Juan Cosala on Wednesday, February 13.

A three-course dinner (with a choice of two great entrees) will be served at 5:30 p.m., followed by a performance of the play “HOUSE,” written by award-winning Canadian playwright Daniel MacIvor and starring well-known Canadian actor Alan Jordan.

MacIvor is the winner of the prestigious Elinore and Lou Sliminovitch Prize, the GLAAD Award and the Governor General’s Award. His plays have been met with acclaim throughout Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Israel and many European countries.

Jordan is best known for his roles on stage in New York at the Circle Repertory Company, Playwrights Horizon and Manhattan Theater Club. He has toured extensively in the United States and Canada and starred in  regional theaters, including the Stratford Festival in Canada. Television audiences have seen Jordan in more than 100 episodes of television series, such as “Dallas,” “Knight Rider,” “Friday the 13th,” “African Journey,” and on soaps such as “The Young and the Restless” and “Santa Barbara.”

“HOUSE” has been described as a stand up, sit down, one-man comedy nightmare that seethes with anger and soothes with comedy.”   Its protaganist, Victor, takes you on “a whirlwind tour of the offices, circus tents, supermarkets, Ramada Inns, sewers, dreams, and houses that compose the hallucinatory landscape of his life.”

By all accounts, “HOUSE” has been playing in San Miguel de Allende to rave reviews. “This black comedy is all you can ask for in a great quirky theater piece,” one audience member said after seeing the play.

Tickets for this dinner/theater package are available from February 1 at Viva Mexico Restaurante (open noon to 8 p.m. daily, closed Thursdays), Profirio Diaz Pte. 92, San Juan Cosala. The cost for dinner and the play is 300 pesos (shared general seating).

Ten percent of ticket sales will go directly to support Operation Feed.
