Animula puts poetry in motion

Poetry, dance, music and theater will be woven together in the debut performance of Animula to be staged Saturday, March 16, 7 p.m., on the outdoor terrace of Chapala’s Centro Cultural Gonzalez Gallo (CCGG).

The show features choreography by Chapala native and distinguished dance artist Gabriela Cuevas, who took her inspiration from the works of Guadalajara poet Jorge Esquinca.  Her dance troupe will play off selected readings of Esquinca’s verses from Animula, a collection entitled with the Latin term meaning small soul.  The feminine element and profound mystery of creation are thematic threads that tie the poems together.

The program will be complemented with original music composed by Alvaro Sanchez, vocals by singer Maria Camarena and stage direction by Miguel Lugo.

The price of admission for the one-night appearance is 100 pesos per person. The CCGG (former railway station) is located at Avenida Gonzalez Gallo 1500.
