Tapatios relish summer’s day at the lake

A crowd of approximately 150 people made up primarily of day trippers from Guadalajara enjoyed a serene day of activities at the edge of Lake Chapala during the Tarde de Verano held June 22 at the La Floresta home of longtime lakeside resident Alejandra Collignon.

A central purpose of the event was to raise public awareness on the troubling conditions of the lake. Guest speaker Carlos Rosales spoke about water issues that impact Chapala, while Jorge Eduardo Beltran delved into its qualities as an ancestral sacred site.

Throughout the day visitors wandered through the lush grounds to view a display of works by local artists, pick up diverse goods at vendor exhibition stands and savor food and drink, all the while taking in yoga demonstrations, live music and dancing presented at the stage set up with the lake as a stunning natural backdrop.
