Mariachi fest books show in Ajijic

Guadalajara’s International Mariachi Festival returns to lakeside this year for a gala matinee concert booked for Sunday, September 1, 3 p.m., at Ajijic’s Huerta de Serna Events Salon.

Organized under the auspices of the Chapala branch of the Guadalajara Chamber of Commerce (Canaco), the show will feature performances by three of the mariachi bands taking part in the spirited week-long encounter of musicians from around the world.  The appearance of a Ballet Folklorcio dance troupe is also on the bill.

Canaco Chapala delegate Yolanda Martinez plans to repeat last year’s Rebozo fashion parade, with  special prizes to be awarded to ladies in the audience who come decked out in typical Mexican shawls and do the best job at modeling on stage.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Chapala Red Cross. The 200 peso per person admission includes a complimentary welcome cocktail. Additional drinks will be available from the cash bar. Tacos and assorted other classic Mexican antojito treats will also be available at modest prices.

Tickets for the mariachi spectacle are now on sale at the following locations:  Yoly’s Unisex Beauty Salon, Mail Boxes Etc., Alfredo’s Galeria, the Tourism module at the Chapala Malecon and the lakeside Canaco office at Aldama 4-A, Ajijic.

Tickets for Mariachi Festival gala concerts in Guadalajara may also be ordered at the local Canaco headquarters where receptionist Juan Manuel Rosales is available to field questions in English. Office hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, phone 766-2784.
