MAS embarks on final chapter

Marking the end of an illustrious 25-year history, the Music Appreciation Society (MAS) will be formally dissolved at a general assembly of the membership to be held Wednesday, October 9, 1 p.m. at La Nueva Posada (Donato Guerra 9, Ajijic).

The main item on the agenda will be presentations by three local musical groups being considered as recipients of the organization’s financial assets, along with a Baldwin grand piano and audio equipment housed at the Auditorio de la Ribera. The candidates are the Centro Regional de Estudios Musicales (CREM) music school, Orquesta Axixic and Los Cantantes del Lago.

The disbursement of resources will be settled by a vote among current and former MAS board officers and other registered members of the assembly. However, all friends and supporters of MAS are invited to attend the meeting and participate in discussion on the matter.

The Music Appreciation Society was founded as a non-profit Asociacion Civil with the aim of bringing first rate music and dance performances to the auditorium for the pleasure of lakeside audiences, a goal successfully achieved year after year since the late 1980’s.

When the auditorium shut down for extensive renovations, MAS aborted its 2012-2013 season. The facility is now back in operation, but dwindling community support coupled with slack season ticket sales for this year prompted the move to disband.

Persons who purchased 2013-2014 season passes should bring them to the meeting to obtain a full refund.
