Acting showcase on tap at new Bravo!

Theatre lovers can now enjoy an ongoing acting workshop at Lakeside showing off some extraordinary talent at the new Bravo! Theatre this week. The workshop (open to all, every Monday, 3 to 5 p.m.) consists of seven delightful scenes from plays by Neil Simon, Noel Coward, Tennessee Williams and other great writers. The actors vary from the highly experiencedprofessional, to the quite remarkable talent here in Ajijic who now have had the opportunity to really workand study their craft.

The workshop is under the overall guidance of well-known actress and director Roseann Wilshere, with huge support from the Bravo Theatre director, Jayme Littlejohn, both of whom will be appearing in the showcase.

The first piece is by Neil Simon and features Douglas Pinkerton and Patricia Guy in a comedic scene from “The Prisoner of Second Avenue.” This is followed by aclassic funny scene from Noel Coward’s famous “Blythe Spirit,” starring Jayme Littlejohn and Barbara Pruitt. Then we return to Neil Simon in a scene from “The Gingerbread Lady,” starring Diane Jones and Tina Leonard. Judy Long and Jayme Littlejohn will then entertain us with humour from “Little Miss Fresno”byMary Gallagher and Ara Watson. Lovers of Tennessee Williams will be delighted to see a great scene from “A Perfect Analysis Given by a Parrot,” starring Roseann Wilshere and Alysson de Jong. We then have a drama treat with a scene from Canadian playwright George Walker and his play “Problem Child,” which stars Pepper Drebes and Lynn Paris Drebes. Finally — and not to be outdone by any of the other scenes) — Norb Michel and Kathleen Morris will have us laughing with Christopher Durang’s “Beyond Therapy.”

Music is by Emma Bergh-Apton, and lighting is by Amara Browers. Stage manager is Pierre Blackburn.
