LLT’s ‘Proof’ bursting with compassion, humanity

Lakeside Little Theatre (LLT) presents “Proof” by David Auburn and directed by Randy Warren, October 19-28.

pg17b“Proof” is a captivating and compassionate drama about scientists whose science matters less than their humanity; a mystery about an important mathematical proof, overlaid with the enigma of genius, and the toll it takes on friends, family and colleagues.

Auburn has written a wonderfully compassionate and knowing play about Catherine, who, on the death of her father, must sort out and deal with long denied feelings and fears. Catherine’s father, Robert, was a brilliant mathematician who crossed the thin line from genius to insanity several years earlier, leaving Catherine as his sole caregiver for all her adult life. Now she must adjust not only to his death, but come to grips with her fear that his mathematical genius, which she has inherited, comes with a dreadful price, that she may be fated to the same mental degeneration and insanity as her father.

The first Saturday and both Sundays are matinees, 4 p.m. and the evening shows begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets, 250 pesos, are available at the LLT box office, 10 a.m. to noon, every Wednesday and Thursday and one hour before curtain.
