Plush Gallo Gallery opens doors

Gallo Gallery is the latest addition to lakeside’s flourishing art scene. The new art venue was opened by poet and budding sculptor Oskar Santoscoy on Saturday, February 18.

Located adjacent to the highway at Hidalgo 113, a block east of Mirasol in Riberas del Pilar, Gallo Gallery has the plush and cozy atmosphere of a private home to beautifully showcase an eclectic collection of works in diverse media created by high-caliber artists. Of special note are the stunning yarn paintings by renowned Wixarika artist Hilaria Chávez Carrillo.

Santoscoy is well known in Jalisco cultural circles and beyond for his poetic works inspired by nature and mysticism, as well as accomplished activism in literary and theatrical endeavors.

He has only recently delved into sculpting with mentoring on techniques from Ajijic artist Daniel Palma. His first three works are ironwork candelabras that reflect his love for the written word. He deviated from that style in his most recent piece, creating sliced profiles of a human head made up of steel panels. Candles ensconced at the top of the figure are lit up to melt down and form flowing streams of hair.

The gallery’s festive gala opening was scheduled to coincide with his 1981 date of birth in Mexico City. Friends and admirers were on hand to raise a toast while hobnobbing with guests and exploring posh exhibit corners.

Regular viewing hours for the public are currently set for 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday through Sunday.
