From December 6 to 15, Lakeside Little Theatre will present the third production of its 60th season, “Dinner,” a dark, satirical thriller depicting a hilarious but ultimately shocking dinner party from hell, written by award-winning playwright Moira Buffini.
“Dinner” premiered two decades ago at the Royal National Theatre in London and was nominated for an Olivier Award for Best Comedy. Summarized Reviewsgate: “The play veers between philosophical chit chat and broad comedy, to mystery, intrigue and verbal (and physical) fisticuffs peppered delivered by sharp and filthy tongues.” (Indeed, LLT has cautioned attendees to expect adult language.) DC Theater Scene called the play “devastatingly funny!”
During the dinner party planned to fête her husband, the hostess manipulates her guests with razor-sharp wit. His new psychobabble book, “Beyond Belief,” has arrived on the bestseller list, which elicits only scorn from his wife. There’s a knock at the door and an uninvited guest seeks refuge from the storm that is raging outside. He is invited to dinner, but is not what he seems.
