Northern Lights
In spite of many rumors to the contrary, the principal concerts of the Scotia Bank Northern Lights Festival series will be held at the Auditorio de la Ribera del Lago in La Floresta.
Those concerts are:
- Keyed Fantasies, Tuesday, February 19, 7:30 p.m.
- Gala Orchestra, Friday,
February 22, 7:30 p.m.
- Jazz at Sunset, Monday,
February 25, 7:30 p.m.
- Going for Baroque, Tuesday, February 26, 7:30 p.m.
- Closing Gala, Friday,
March 1, 7:30 p.m.
Also, due to popular demand, organizers have added an additional Jazz & Dinner concert at Ajijic’s La Nueva Posada on Thursday, February 28, 6 p.m. Tickets for this event are available from the venue only.
All other tickets can be purchased at the Lake Chapala Society from 10 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday, and at Charter Club Tours from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Ceramics
Galeria Sol Mexicano (Colon 13, Ajijic) will host the largest showing of high-fired artistic pottery ever seen at Lakeside, opening March 2. On display will be more than 100 works of sculpture, wall pieces, lamps, bowls, vases and so forth.
Master ceramists Frank Howell, Rob Miller and Robert Burns Wilson will be on hand. Howell and Miller will give a dramatic demonstration (including lots of fire and smoke) of raku glazing.
Meanwhile, gallery owner Lorraine Farrow plans a two-week showing of the graphic art of Pat Apt.
El Gallo
El Gallo Gallery (Guadalupe Victoria 30, Ajijic) will hold its own art fair on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, February 16, 17 and 18, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Expect to see paintings by Ken Gosh, Dona Johnson, Dan Williams, Elizabeth Lee, Diane MacTavish, Kathy Fallon, Varn, Cindy Thomson, Deb Shapse and Linzy Roberts.
Refreshments will be served and there is no admission fee.
VIVA trips
Tickets for VIVA trips to the “Live from the Met” series and the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra concerts in Guadalajara can be purchased at the Lake Chapala Society Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to noon.
The buses for the Friday JPO concerts leave at 4.30 p.m. while the Sunday trips leave at 10.30 a.m. Tickets are 250 pesos for members and 350 pesos for non-members.
Please note that the tickets are purchased in bulk 7-10 days in advance; therefore the sooner the reservations are made the better. (See the JPO and Live from the Met schedule on page 27.)
Viva membership costs 250 pesos for one person and 450 pesos per couple.

Season 49
Lakeside Little Theatre has lined up its roster of plays for its 49th season. They are:
n “Local Hero,” written and directed by Lakeside resident Neal Checkoway. It’s a modern day fable, based the movie of the same name.
n “The Heiress,” directed by Rosann Wilshere, is a period drama.
n “Over The River and Through the Woods,” directed by Ann Swiston, is a comedic drama.
n “Blood Relations,” directed by Lynn Phelan, is a drama.
n “Hooray for Hollywood!” is a musical written and directed by Barbara Clippinger.
n “Social Security” is a comedy directed by Phil Shepherd.
Opening night
This year, Lakeside Little Theatre implemented the “Red Carpet Welcome” and a “Drink with the Cast.” Next season, in response to the request of audiences and volunteers, the theater is moving its opening night to Fridays.
This means each show’s run will start on a Friday evening, followed by an evening performance on Saturday and a Sunday matinee. Then, in keeping with theatrical tradition, LLT will go dark on Mondays, giving the cast and crews a rest. They will be back fresh on Tuesday evening and run continuously through the following Sunday matinee.
LLT says it will soon contact all current Saturday opening night season ticket holders so they may change to Friday if they wish. Monday night season ticket holders will be given first priority for new seats that are currently unsubscribed on any other day.
Rescued
Luna and Winston, almost famous pooches from their Mom’s book, “Who Rescued Who: Tales of Street Dogs and the People Who Love Them,” have just made their first donations from book sales. On January 30, they made a donation of just over 2,500 pesos, plus another 1,500 pesos received anonymously from a generous donor at a book signing. The monies were delivered and donated to the Animal Buddies Dog/Cat Food Drive.
Another of just over 2,500 pesos will be made at the Rotary Club meeting for their Acidic Rotary Dog-Assisted Therapy Program on March 12.
