“The Men’s Foursome” by Norm Foster is next up at the Bare Stage, Friday to Sunday, July 26 to 28. Rick, Ted, Donnie and Cameron are home for their 15-year college reunion; a great time to go out for a game of golf and catch up on each other’s lives.

Community Orchestra

The Lake Chapala Community Orchestra’s concert on Sunday, July 28, with guest artist Victor Garcia is now sold out. Due to the unprecedented demand, the orchestra is opening up their dress rehearsal for those people who were unable to reserve tickets. The dress rehearsal is Saturday, July 27, 1 p.m. at the Lakeside Presbyterian Church, 250 San Jorge, Riberas del Pilar.

Admission is free, but donations to the orchestra will be gratefully received.

pg17cEvents for kids

Babies and tots up to three years old and their older brothers and sisters can enjoy a theater production just for them, with two shows, Sunday, July 28, 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Auditorio de la Ribera.

The play, staged by the Colectivo Teatro En Espiral from Baja California, allows the audience to experience changes in climate, including the sun, wind and rain.

Tickets are 90 pesos for one adult and an infant aged under four, and 70 pesos for all other children and adults.

The company focuses on theater for children.

Spotlight Club

Seasons – the voices of Marcela Mota, Fabian Mon, Marcelo Salazar and Ben Wak – take you on a journey through the 1960s, ‘70’s and ‘80s Saturday, July 27, 7 p.m. Tickets: 300 pesos.

Dwight Blake returns with his birthday show, August 8, 7 p.m. Dance the night away to hits from Billy Joel, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles and more. Tickets: 250 pesos.

Viva Las Vegas with the Crazy Bitches female impersonators August 9 and 10, 7 p.m. Tickets: 250 pesos. Cassies Kitchen will be open for pizza, wings, chili and hot dogs.

Children’s Art Camp

pg18aThe Lake Chapala Society Children’s Art Program holds its 7th Annual Art Camp Monday, July 29, to Friday, August 2, 10 a.m. to noon. Workshops offered this year include acrylics, watercolor, abstract, mosaics, tissue paper flowers, projects with foam, drawing, painting, blankets, wind socks and alebrijes/papel maché.

A sale of art created by children during the workshops will be held in the LCS gazebo Saturday, August 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Film Aficionados

Lake Chapala Society (LCS) members can take advantage of Film Aficionados screenings each Thursday, 2 p.m.

On August 1, “The Straight Story” (1999, United States) will be screened. An old man makes a long journey by lawnmower to mend his relationship with his ill brother. Winner at Sundance Film Festival and nominee for Academy Award for best actor. (109 minutes.)

Fiber arts classes

Brad Mowers offers six fiber arts classes Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., beginning August 5 in Chapala.

A maximum of six students per class will allow you to get your hands on the essentials of fiber arts, working with a Mayan paddle and spinner to spin the fiber into yarn. Color them with traditional Mexican natural dyes and weave your yarn on a tapestry loom. Looms, tools and materials will be for sale after the last class. Jazz at Cochera Cultural

Lopez, originally from New York, lives in France and is currently on tour in Mexico. He is artistic director of Rennes Latin Jazz Ensamble in France and teaches saxophone in Fribourg, Switzerland.

Bar opens 5 p.m. Tickets, 300 pesos general and 500 pesos VIP (includes one drink), are available at Diane Pearl, Casa Domenech, La Cochera Cultura and the Auditorio.

Woodstock reprised

Bar Camaleon, Constitucion 29 in Ajijic, is holding a tribute to the 50th anniversary of Woodstock, August 17 and 18, 4 p.m. with Daniel Cordero, Los Bad Hombres and Los Tres Mosqueteros playing the music of Richie Havens, Arlo Guthrie, Country Joe McDonald, Credence Clearwater Revival, Janis Joplin, The Who, Joe Cocker, Johnny Winter, Crosby Stills Nash and Young, Jimmy Hendrix, Carlos Santana, Ten Years After and more. Tomas “Bonny” Hernandez and Leonardo Gonzalez will paint a mural live during the event. Reservations: (376) 108-2588.

Talent Show

The School for Special Children is looking for contestants to participate in talent shows to be held at the Spotlight Club during the next high season.

Two shows per month, each featuring six contestants, will be held November through January. The six top contestants will vie for a 25,000-peso prize at the final talent show to be held at the Auditorio de la Ribera in February.

Kids’ cinema

La Ludoketa, Parroquia 1A in Ajijic, is offering free children’s movies in Spanish Saturday, August 10, 17 and 24, 5:30 p.m. The three films are by Japanese animated director, producer, animator and illustrator Hayao Miyazaki, who has been feted in various film festivals throughout the world during five decades. The films are “Mi Vecino Totoro” (My Neighbor Totoro) on August 10; “Kiki, Entregas a Domicilio” (Kiki’s Delivery Service) on August 17 and “El Viaje de Chihiro” (Spirited Away) on August 24.

Bare Stage auditions

Bare Stage Theatre is holding Auditions for “Mrs. Warren’s Profession” by George Bernard Shaw, with curtain dates September 27, 28 and 29. Two women and four men actors are needed.
