Bare Stage goes dark

The Bare Stage Theatre Company will be dark in May, but returns in June with a production of “Scenes from An American Life” by A.R. Gurney, directed by Rosann Balbontin. In July, Bernadette Jones will direct “The Truth” (“La Vérité”) by Florian Zeller, translated by Christopher Hampton.

Auditions for “The Truth” are set for May 24, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Keep abreast at Facebook/barestagetheatre2018.

Art

The Art Connection, The Root Side and Volcan are sponsoring Art in the Plaza Saturday, May 7, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Centro Laguna Mall. Clothes, textiles, gourmet and organic foods, art and crafts will be available.

Finally, after a two-year Covid hiatus, Lakeside Little Theatre will present the Mark Boyer 10-Minute Play Festival August 4-7 this year.

A panel of three experienced directors chose eight out of 36 plays submitted to compete in the festival. The play will be performed on each day and judged by a panel of adjudicators, as well as asking audiences to vote on a people’s choice.

LLT is looking for directors with experience—either here or at other theaters—or folks who want to try their hand at directing to put their hat in the ring to work magic with one or two of these eight plays.

Grand opening

Celebrating 100 years of art in Ajijic, the Ajijic Museo del Arte (AMA) is holding a grand opening Wednesday to Friday, June 1 to 3, 3 to 8 p.m.

The museum is at Calle Privado Flores Magón 3 in West Ajijic. Suggested donation for attendees is 40 pesos.
