Ribera Arts Review - May 27, 2023

Piano recital

Sofia Ramirez Gonzalez gives a free piano concert Friday, May 26, 6:30 p.m. at the Centro Cultural Gonzalez Gallo in Chapala. The program features pieces by Ravel, Brahms, Chopin, Haydn and Bach.

Saturday night live

• The Romeos Reloaded, featuring Esteban Olvera on guitar, performs at El BarCo rooftop stage in Ajijic, Saturday, May 27, 3 p.m.

• Mr. Marbles performs the same night, 7:30 p.m., at the Iron Horse Saloon in Riberas del Pilar. 50 pesos cover. On stage will be Esteban, Daniel Cordero, Tim Tibbits, Horacio and Farid.

Summer Sound Fest

Sunday, May 28, from noon to 11 p.m. the Ajijic Malecon hosts local bands at this free event, including Babas Tutsipop, Mary’s Island, Mardel, The Murials, The Yellow Dreamers Club, LYXR, Alemeda, Johnny Guzman, La Sopa, Traffic Tulish, Alba Duo and more.

Free concert

Mexican tenor Damian Ramírez Arellano will be accompanied by Ajijic pianist Rodrigo Leal Murillo at a concert Sunday, May 28, 12:30 p.m. at the Centro Cultural Gonzalez Gallo.

Shutterbugs

Monday, May 29, the Shutterbugs photography club holds a discussion dinner at El Sombrero Restaurant, 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Local photographers are given a study card or photo technique to study for the month. They RSVP with 3-4 photos that address the assignment. The group discusses each submission and talks about composition, technique and other elements of the photos. One of the local members may address the group to discuss their particular technique, which we will study and discuss the following month. The topic for May is intentional camera movement.

Artist trading cards

Thursday, June 1, artists gather at around 4 p.m. at Casa del Sol Inn, Javier Mina 7, Ajijic, to trade cards they have made. There is a theme for the cards for this monthly gathering. Artists create individual pieces of art that are 2.5” X 3.5” (baseball card-sized) and bring as many as they wish to trade with other artists. Art on the Plaza

An art show at Centro Laguna Mall is held every first Saturday (next one June 3). Cost to participate is 100 pesos. All art forms are welcome. You must provide your own table and chairs (and tent or umbrella).

Steve’s birthday bash

Each year, concert promotor and LCS President Steve Balfour does something special for various charities on his birthday.  This year he is holding two very different shows at the Lake Chapala Society, Saturday, June 9.

• At 5 p.m., Enrique de Allende will give his Carnegie Hall preview show, singing in English, Spanish and Italian, including music by Andrea Bocelli, Michael Buble, Josh Groban and songs of Mexico.

• At 7 p.m., Boys on Fire International Edition present the sexiest male burlesque show ever. The performers are dancers, singers and acrobats from Argentina, Mexico, Venezuela and Colombia.

Tickets per show are 500 pesos for VIP table seating and 350 pesos for general admission. Patrons who purchase tickets to both shows will be treated to a special full taco bar between shows.  Tickets are available at LCS office, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
