Exhibits

• Centro Cultural Ajijic presents a collective exhibition featuring painting, sculpture, graphic art and photography by dozens of local artists. The show opens with music, cocktails and appetizers on Friday, November 14, 5 p.m.

• Xayacas conquest masks take center stage in a festive weekend event at La Cochera Cultural (Javier Mina 49, Ajijic) from Friday to Sunday, November 14-16. The celebration will include workshops, dances, a mask exhibition, craft sales and conferences. Participating towns from Jalisco include Ajijic, Tonala and San Martin de las Flores, with Michoacán’s Tocuaro and Pamatacuaro also represented. • An exhibition of art by San Juan Cosala artist Xilonzochitl ‘Chivo’ Camarena, alias Xilotl, is on at Casa del Sol Inn, Javier Mina 7 in Ajijic.

 

Art Shows

• The Artists of Lake Chapala hosts their Artisan Art Show on Saturday, November 15, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (and every third Saturday of the month) at the Centro para la Cultura y las Artes de la Ribera (CCAR) in La Floresta, located on the Carretera. Enjoy tacos, drinks and coffee bars. Entrance is free.

• Deck the Walls, a Christmas art market fundraiser for Ajijic Cares, will be held Sunday, November 16, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of La Fiesta Restaurant, Carretera Jocotepec-Chapala 22 in Ajijic. Find unique handmade treasures from local artists. • American Legion Post 7 Auxiliary will hold a holiday bazaar, with artisans, crafters and a bake sale, Saturday, November 15, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Legion, Morelos 114 in Chapala. Find glass, mosaics, suncatchers, clothing, quilts, food items, candies, soaps, beauty products, crochets, jewelry and more.

• El Granero celebrates its 3rd anniversary with a concert of five bands. The cover is 150 pesos.

SUNDAY

• The Romeos are back for another exciting season, ready to entertain with more great music. The first performance, Sunday, November 16, 3 to 6 p.m. at El BarCo’s rooftop, will also serve as a memorial for their former keyboard player, Wes Cogan. Music from 3 to 6 p.m. Reservations:  376 766 0452.

• The Lake Chapala Orchestra presents “From Russia to the Rhine,” Saturday, November 29, 2 p.m. at the Robert Kleffel Auditorium on the Libramiento. Flautist Eva Rodriguez solos, Michael Reason conducts. The program includes: Glinka’s Rusian and Ludmilla Overture, Mozart’s Flute Concerto No. 1 and Schumann’s Symphony No. 4. Christmas at Jaltepec event

A concert by the Nova Lux Chamber Choir (above), directed by Ken Turner, will be one of the highlights of Centro Educativo Jaltepec’s annual Christmas at Jaltepec event on Wednesday, December 3, at 6 p.m. at the residence and chapel. A no-host bar and hors d’oeuvres prepared by the students will precede the 7 p.m. concert. Dinner will be served at 7:30 p.m., featuring cream of mushroom soup, roast turkey with cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, seasonal vegetables, and molten chocolate cake with a vanilla ice cream quenelle. Comic at Bravo!

Stand-up comedy returns to The BRAVO! with Canadian comic Ophira Eisenberg, a Brooklyn-based comedian who’s earned recognition as “one of the top ten comics funny people find funny,” according to New York Magazine. Eisenberg has appeared on The Late Late Show, The Today Show, HBO’s Girls, Caroline’s Comedy Club and Comedy Central.
