Breathtaking outdoor sites to visit in San Luis Potosí

The state of San Luis Potosí is famed for its breathtaking landscapes, especially its fantastic waterfalls, rivers and cliffs — not to mention some surrealistic sculpture gardens.

Visitors who love hiking and the great outdoors will face the difficult decision of which beautiful natural site to visit first.

Lori Jones, a native of San Luis and a highly experienced tour guide for Operatour Potosina, has some tips for travelers to the state.

Tamasopo

“The Tamasopo Waterfalls lie at the eastern end of the state in the great, untamed Huasteca wilderness,” Jones told me. “Of all the places we take people, this is my favorite.”

At Tamasopo you’ll find three stunningly beautiful waterfalls to explore and swim under, along with other small pools and rivers. The place is almost like a water park, but the falls, pools and water slides are natural. In addition, there are jumping platforms and bridges at various heights, plus ropes to swing from.

A few kilometers from Tamasopo you’ll find another swimming attraction called Puente de Diós (God’s Bridge), a pool of crystal-clear water that extends into a cave.
