International flights returning to GDL

International flights arriving and departing the Guadalajara Airport in August totalled  more than in any other month of the coronavirus pandemic (912), although passenger  flow dropped to 76,859 from 82,660 registered in July.

International flights dropped from 604 in March to 275 in April and 227 in May, according to airport operators Grupo Aeroporturio del Pacifico (GAP). The recovery started in June with 458 arrivals and departures registered, and continued in July with 781.

Canadian carrier offers Covid insurance

Air Canada Vacations is offering Canadian travelers to Mexico Covid-19-based medical insurance at no extra cost. The move, which will also apply to Caribbean destinations, came about through a partnership between the Canadian carrier and German insurers Allianz Global Assistance. The program covers up to CA$100,000 per person per trip, and includes repatriation should a person die abroad.

Health care workers most at risk

Mexico has registered the highest number of deaths from coronavirus among health workers, according to an Amnesty International report published last week. The study notes that this country has so far reported 1,320 health-care-personnel fatalities, higher than 1,077 in the United States, 649 in the United Kingdom and 634 in Brazil.

Guadalajara trade show centerback in business

The reopening of the Expo Guadalajara trade show center is “fundamental” to the reactivation of the Jalisco economy, Governor Enrique Alfaro said at the inauguration of the four-day Expo Moda fashion show September 1. Latin America’s largest annual fashion extravaganza was the first event to be held at the center since the beginning of March. Alfaro said the lessons learned from Expo Moda will enable further events to be held safely, including the annual International Book Fair (FIL), scheduled for the beginning of December.

Teen car thiefin deadly crash

A woman died and her two young daughters were seriously injured after the car she was driving along the city beltway (Periferico) Tuesday evening was involved in a accident with an SUV being driven recklessly by a 17-year-old who had stolen the vehicle only minutes earlier in the La Tuzania neighborhood. The teen driver suffered only minor injuries and was taken into police custody.
