New Del Toro flick opens in Mexico, as passion project gets release date

With the release of a short teaser, Netflix announced this week that acclaimed Guadalajara-born film director Guillermo del Toro’s stop-motion musical reimagining of the classic tale “Pinocchio” will premier on the internet platform in December.

pg16bThe Oscar-winning director told Mexican news outlets that Pinocchio is one of the most personal projects of his 35-year career. “Pinocchio is a film that I have dreamed of making since I was a child because for me it is just like Frankenstein. They are two stories that speak of the loneliness that comes with being born as a human being,” he told El Sol de México.

Friday, January 28, sees the Mexican opening  of Del Toro’s “Nightmare Alley,” a neo-noir psychological thriller based on the novel by William Lindsay Gresham, starring Bradley Cooper, Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara.
