Support local veterans at fundraiser for Guadalajara American Legion Post 17

A group of honorably discharged veterans in Guadalajara founded American Legion Post #17 Guadalajara on May 8, 2024.

Most members are veterans of the Persian Gulf War (1990–1991) and the Iraq War (2003–2011).  They also include veterans of the War in Afghanistan (2001–2021) and a few from the Vietnam era (1955–1975).

Although the United States was not a combatant in the Iran–Iraq War (1980–1988), some Post 17 members served on active duty during that period. Under the Legion Act of 2019, honorably discharged veterans who served at least one day of active federal service since December 7, 1941, are eligible for American Legion membership.

Members meet on the last Thursday of every month at the American Society of Jalisco (AMSOC) at 10 a.m.  Their mission: “Veterans Serving Veterans, Building Community Together.”

A fundraiser dinner hosted by Post 17 to support the veterans will be held on Saturday, October 24, from 5 to 9 p.m. at AMSOC, San Francisco 3332, Colonia Jardines Los Arcos, Guadalajara.

The cost for a good meal, great company and a worthy cause is 300 pesos. Drinks will be for sale.

Get your tickets at AMSOC or reserve them with Martha at 331-828-6130.
