Mac Whyte, interim president of the Satellite Rotary E-Club of Lake Chapala, is accepting pledges for the virtual walk from his home in San Juan Cosalá to Mexico City that he plans to complete by the end of February.
Sponsors can donate funds for his walk of 551.7 kilometers (342.81 miles) by the end of February.
The funds pledged by his sponsors will go to the anti-violence in schools, stop hunger and vocational training projects of the Butterflies (Mariposa) program supported by the Satellite Rotary E-Club.
Others are encouraged to plan virtual walks to combine exercise with fundraising for these worthy causes. Participants can pick their own schedule and walk at their own speed at the malecon, in their neighborhoods or on a treadmill and then log the kilometers walked each week.
