Time is ripe to make provisions for calamity

It’s only human nature to avoid thinking about our vulnerabilities to medical emergencies and the inevitability of death. But people who care about what loved ones, close friends and even they themselves may face in unfortunate circumstances know they should do the groundwork of putting their affairs in order.

Folks who haven’t yet prepared for such calamities would be wise to take advantage of the new partnership between My Guardian Angel (MGA) and the Lake Chapala Society (LCS) to get their ducks in a row.

Starting in September, Guardian Angel rep Vicki Todd Gay will be stationed at the LCS grounds every Monday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., to simultaneously assist persons interested in obtaining the handy MGA emergency registry cards and signing up in the LCS Post-Life Planning program. She will offer step-by-step guidance in filling out all the forms so you can walk away knowing that anyone who needs to know will have easy access to vital information in case you become incapacitated or expire.

MGA registry cards, available in wallet and glove box size formats, contain data about existing medical conditions, allergies and regular meds, along with contact information for next of kin or designated caregivers, primary physicians and health insurance providers. The modest cost for the service includes the LCS post-life sign-up fee.

It’s a golden opportunity for procrastinators to get the weight of taking care of business off their shoulders and then get on with living the good life on Lake Chapala’s shores.
