New options open for university students at lakeside

Universidad Regional UNIR-Chapala opens its doors Monday, September 7, offering new opportunities for lakeside area students to pursue professional studies without the costly transportation expenses entailed in attending campuses in the Guadalajara metro area.

UNIR classrooms are being accommodated at Chapala’s Colegio del Lago, Ramón Corona 37, near the waterfront restaurant row.  The variety of study programs includes business administration, accounting, marketing, international business, law, architectural engineering, psychology and nutrition.

The new institution will operate year-round on a quarterly academic system, allowing students to complete their curricula in three calendar years. Enrollments are available for a Monday through Friday, 3-7 p.m. class schedule, or Saturdays only, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Monthly tuition is set at 1,200 pesos, less than half the average cost of four weeks of bus fare to Guadalajara. Reduced rates may be obtained through various student aid programs that are in the works. A 50 percent discount on the annual 1,430 peso enrollment fee is also available this month.

UNIR is affiliated with the private university chain Univer founded in 1955, along with sister UNIR campuses in Puerto Vallarta, Tequila, Arandas, Jalostotitlán and Lagos de Moreno.
