Weekly Worship - November 7, 2015

Christ Church

Warden Jim Powers will preside on Sunday, November 8, 9:30 a.m. when Christ Church Episcopal celebrates Holy Communion from the Presanctified Elements at the Little Chapel by the Lake, Carretera 10 in Chula Vista. The theme of Powers’ message is “Being Real and Giving All,” based on Mark 12:38-44.

The congregations of Christ Church Episcopal and the Little Chapel share a common coffee fellowship between their respective services from 10:35-11:10 a.m. in the fellowship hall.

The Tuesday Bible Study meeting will not be held on November 10 and resumes on November 17, 2 p.m.

San Andres English

God in whom we trust is the theme of the mass of the English-speaking congregation of San Andres English Church for Sunday, November 8, 9 a.m.

“We must not be afraid to give, for Christ gave himself completely and will reward with salvation all those who are waiting for him,” says Fr. Basil G. Royston, D. Min.

On the second Sunday of each month members of this congregation present a second offering. The donations fund the group’s outreach program which assists thousands of lakesiders, from tiny orphans to the aged of Ajijic and Jocotepec, students and animals.

The congregation is seeking an organist and choir director. Applicants can contact Royston at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..">This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Lake Chapala Baptist

“The way we behave toward people indicates what we really believe about God,” says Brother Bob Hendrick, pastor of the Lake Chapala Baptist Church. Commenting on his message for the worship service Sunday, November 8, 11 a.m., he adds, “Christianity is a religion of equality. Everyone equally is made by God, has chosen to sin against God and yet is equally loved by God. All who have accepted salvation in Christ are equally saved and forgiven by God.

“There really are no super saints, according to the Bible. All are welcomed regardless of how bad they may have been. The book of James says, ‘…judgment is without mercy to one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.’”

Bible Study is held at 9:45 on Sundays. There is midweek Bible Study and the midweek service is held on Wednesdays at 10 a.m.

Unitarian Universalist

The Rev. Ernest Mills of Brevard County, North Carolina is visiting Lakeside and preaching at the Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist (UU) meetings on the radical nature of UU principles.

His sermon for the Sunday, November 8, 10:30 a.m. service is, “A Copernican Revolution – Spiritual Style.” Mills shows how the first UU principle, concerning the inherent worth and dignity of all, directly challenges the age- old-dogma known as original sin.

Mills will also be speaking to the group on Sunday, November 15.

The local UU congregation is an English-speaking, lay-led fellowship.  They now have an enhanced personal sound system to helping those with hearing issues. Attendees use headphones or ear buds connected to an FM radio or FM capable cell phone to access the system.

The group meets in Plaza de la Ribera (formerly Sol y Luna), at Rio Bravo 10A, in a wheelchair-accessible facility.

St Andrews Anglican

At St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, as in churches all over the world, this is stewardship season, the time when people of faith decide on their commitments for the coming year.

The gospel reading for the Sunday, November 8, 10 a.m. service tells the familiar story of a widow who gave everything she had to her faith community. Fr. Winston Welty suggests in his sermon, “Watching the Widow,” it’s not quite that simple. Refreshments follow the service in the garden.

Sunday School begins at 9:45 a.m. Donations will be received for the Jocotepec school children and their families. Non-perishable food items for the feeding program supported by St. Andrew’s can left in the baskets.

The “Company of Gentlemen” welcomes men of the parish and community to attend the monthly breakfast on Wednesday, November 11, 8:30 a.m. at Min Wah Restaurant in upper Ajijic.

St. Andrew’s is at Calle San Lucas 19, a block south of the Carretera in Riberas del Pilar.

New Hope

The non-denominational congregation of the New Hope Christian Fellowship continues the new worship format on Sunday, November 8, with refreshments served at 10:30 a.m., followed by the service at 11 a.m.

After the Children’s Bible time, the adults will continue the worship service with scripture, hymns and prayers. Pastor Gene Raymer has titled his message, “The Problem with Prayer,” and adds, “The problem certainly isn’t God.” Following the service, many from the congregation continue the fellowship over a meal at a local restaurant.

While making plans for a move to a new location, the congregation continues to meet at the home of the pastor at Privada Jesus Garcia 11. For more information or directions call the pastor at (376) 766-3435 or email This email address is being protected from spambots.
