Thrill The World is an annual event in which local residents join together with thousands of people around the globe to celebrate Michael Jackson’s talent by dancing simultaneously to his pop hit “Thriller.”

But the event is more than just dancing to a six-minute song.

This is a global community project that is inspiring others to break down barriers, connect with people of all religions, race, political and economic persuasions, contribute to helping humanity, encourage environmental stewardship and encourage people to step up as leaders, visionaries and creators.

Elliott Joachim started the “Thriller” event in Ajijic in 2010 with a mere seven people.

Everyone thought they were crazy and they probably were, but they had fun dressing up as zombies and doing the same dance as thousands of others around the world.

Thrill the World has become a major annual event in Ajijic.  In 2015, the zombie horde swelled to 65 people who managed to raise over 200,000 pesos for the Chapala Cruz Roja in sponsorships from the-ir friends and families –and even complete strangers. Hundreds of people packed the Ajijic plaza to witness the show.

Joachim passed away earlier this year, but her dream was to assemble a legion of over 100 zombies. In her memory, this year’s Thriller organizers are calling for zombies to rise up and make that dream happen.

Rehearsals for Thrill the World Ajijic 2016 begin on Saturday, September 10, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Club Exotica at the back of El Jardin Restaurant on the Ajijic plaza. The rehearsals continue on Wednesdays from 5 to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 1 to 3 p.m., until the show on Saturday, October 29, at 5 p.m. sharp.

Come and learn the dance (no experience necessary), have fun, and raise some money for the Cruz Roja.
