Despite repeated public warnings, a wily English-speaking con artist is still preying on lakeside residents, scamming them out of money with phony distress calls.
An official from the Ministerio Público (district attorney’s office) reports that four victims registered complaints this week about being taken by someone who impersonated a friend or relative needing financial help to get out of a legal jam.
Readers are advised to use caller ID to avoid answering calls from unknown parties. A plea from someone who does not immediately identify himself by name should be considered suspect. Hang up at once or at least verify the status of person presuming to be in trouble before opening your wallet. Share this alert with all your friends and social media contacts.
