Exquisite Christmas and New Year’s dining at Lakeside

A few restaurants are serving up special dishes for the holidays. Here are a few we know about.

The Avocado Club offers dining and dancing to Canadian music icon Cathy Young, December 31. The dining options include an oyster bar and two-pound live lobster with corn and creole potatoes for 1,250 pesos or a three-course menu for 500 pesos. Appetizers include bayou shellfish bisque with puff pastry, grilled tofu salad with organic greens and a walnut sesame dressing and Thai crab cakes and shrimp with magnolia sauce. Main courses are a three-peppercorn NY steak, duck cassoulet or a seasoned shellfish broth with shrimp, fresh fish, calamari, mussels and clams. Dessert is tres leches cake with boozy berries. Arileo sports a Christmas Eve dinner of cilantro cream, stuffed fish fillet, prime rib and crepes Suzette. Their New Year’s Eve menu starts with Thai salmon cream, filet mignon in Portobello sauce or Hawaiian fish filet and Baileys mousse. Both days they also serve their regular menu. Armando’s Christmas Day  and New Year’s Day special includes Waldorf salad, roast turkey with all the trimmings or beef filet medallions in Cognac, dessert, a glass of wine and brandy or Kalua. Reservations: 766-2229.

Elegante is putting on the Ritz for New Year’s, offering cocktail appetizers and a five-course dinner of butternut squash bisque, arugula salad with truffle dressing, parmesan and roasted tomatoes, shrimp cocktail, with caperberries cocktail sauce, filet mignon and Caribbean lobster tail and chocolate cake for 650 pesos. Reservations: 766-1066.

Hacienda Don Pedro offers a Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve dinner menu of carrot soup, spinach salad, salmon in wine sauce or filet of fish with mushrooms for 250 pesos per person, including a house tequila and two glasses of wine. Reservations: 766-4906.

La Mision will have a Christmas Eve menu of cream of shrimp with either filet mignon or red snapper filet. Dessert is homemade fruit cake. Service is from 12:30-9:30 p.m. 320 pesos per person.

La Mision’s New Year’s Eve party runs from 7 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. with live music. The menu includes stuffed mushroom caps, crab soup or salad Nicoise, and main dishes of one-pound lobster tail with asparagus and rice or Oso Buco, baby potatoes with rosemary, vegetable in red wine gray and pecan pie with vanilla ice cream. Party favors and a glass of cider and 12 grapes come at midnight and a chef’s special from 1-1:30 a.m.  Reservations: (376)108-0887.

Manix’s New Year’s Eve menu is a five-course meal of Mayan soup, papaya salad, lobster tail thermidore or chateaubriand with béarnaise sauce, herbed potatoes, vegetables and tres leches cake. A midnight champagne and grapes toast and a fireworks castillo with live music for dancing costs 1,100 pesos. Reservations: 766-0061.

Roberto’s is open December 24, 25, 31 and January 1 and the fare includes roast turkey, baked ham, lamb loin, duckling, lobster tail or thermidor, roast beef and fresh fish dishes, as well as their regular menu. Reservations: 766-1616.

Salvador’s offers Christmas Day dinner from noon to 6:30 p.m. for 200 pesos including roast turkey, baked ham, salads, corn bread, mashed potatoes, many desserts, a glass of wine or beer, coffee, tea or a soft drink. Reservations: 766-2301.
