Traffic detours set for Virgin’s visit to Chapala

The north-south lane of Avenida Madero, Chapala’s main thoroughfare, will be closed to traffic from 7 a.m. Sunday, July 8, for the annual summer pilgrimage of the Virgen de Zapopan.

Parking will also be prohibited from that hour, with vehicles left on the street subject to towing.

Incoming traffic will be temporarily rerouted to Avenida Pepe Guizar just past the Soriana supermarket. Madero will reopen as far as the intersection with Avenida Hidalgo around noon once the procession has passed that point, remaining blocked beyond the traffic light until 4 p.m.

Through passage into Chapala via Hidalgo will also be restricted while the celebration is under way.

Public transportation service by bus heading into Chapala from Jocotepec and intermediate points will run normally until 9:30 a.m.  Passengers traveling from the center of town towards San Antonio and points west may board small buses that will line up along the north side of Hidalgo.
