Chapala plants a pine forest

In the midst of the coronavirus scare, Chapala government officials took time out Wednesday, March 18 to start planting a pine forest on four hectares of terrain set above the Libramiento bypass, under a land-use agreement forged with Chapala’s Ejido community.

The assorted conifers, averaging two meters in height, will be under the constant care of the municipality’s ecology department to ensure their survival. The project was launched as part of an initiative to reforest the community with one tree donated by the parents of every newborn issued a birth certificate at City Hall’s Registro Civil.
