St. Andrew’s stained-glass windows explained

The newly installed stained- glass windows at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church in Riberas del Pilar came about thanks to the generosity and hard work of several members of the congregation.

pg16bRodger and Marge Ericson were commissioned by Carol Van Gorp and Al Borchardt to make the two sets of windows.  The couple said they would donate their labor and all the materials if the two made a large contribution to a local charity.

Their financial donation will provide scholarships so motivated girls from low-income families can attend the Centro Educativo Jaltepec hospitality school near Jocotopec.

“We constructed the panels for the two window sets while we were at our apartment in Texas over the winter,” explains Rodger. “We took measurements for each panel last November and allowed 1/16 of an inch on each side to help ensure they would fit. And they fit snugly.”

The stained-glass image of St. Francis pictures him at peace with a wolf, tenderly scratching around an ear.  Legend says Francis spoke to and tamed a wolf that was terrorizing a village, and he instructed the wolf not to hurt people or their animals.
