Weekly Worship - March 05, 2022

Lakeside Presbyterian

In pastor Carolyn’s third sermon this Sunday, in our series on the books of the Bible, we’ll learn about Leviticus.

The book of Leviticus is intimidating. It’s all about the instructions for the priests in Israel: How—precisely—to do everything that had to do with the tabernacle that the Israelites had just finished building.

The point still has meaning for us today, even though we don’t sacrifice animals in the temple. In Leviticus we learn about the importance of holiness.

Bible study is Wednesday, 10 a.m., in the church sanctuary. The book of Matthew is the current focus of this initial, interactive, study.

In-church services are at 9:30 a.m. (English) and 11 a.m. (Spanish). The live English service streams each Sunday on Facebook at Lakeside Presbyterian Church-Chapala. All masking and social distancing protocols are in place.

If you need a ride to come to church, coantact LPC at 376-106-0853 before 4 p.m. on Friday.

There are coffee and refreshments after the service in the Narthex.

Unitarians

March 6, Rev. Matt Alspaugh will speak on “Faith, Doubt, Trust.”

Faith is a complex topic for us Unitarian Universalists. We don’t trust the blind faith that some other religious traditions have expected of us in our pasts. We are uncomfortable being told to “just believe.” Yet, over time, many of us have developed an abiding faith, maybe better, enduring trust, in our answers to the deep questions of life. In this service, we’ll explore the nature of such faith, or trust in our own spiritual understandings. DeeDee Camhi will be the service leader

March 13, Richard Clarke will speak on “Giving: Share your Gifts” with Carol Johnson as  service leader.

Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship services are Sundays, 10:30 a.m. Starting March 6, The Unitarian building will again be open to fully vaccinated participants. Lake Chapala Baptist

Pastor John Linton finished his in-depth study of Amos last Sunday, something of a doom-to-glory roller coaster, for sure. Starting Sunday, March 13, he tells us, we begin a foray into the “love letter of joy,” Philippians.

This past Sunday the message, titled “No Blood and Iron but Roses and Lavender,” focused on the last verses of Amos, which Pastor John described as “an oasis of hope.”

“These last verses fall into the category of eschatology,” he explained. “At the end of time, God’s word will be vindicated and His faithful will be filled with the hope of a wonderful promise.”

The prophet tells of coming salvation, of the Fall’s curse removed not only from God’s people, but from the very earth as well, of never-ending harvests and a new, superior Eden restored. There will be peace and prosperity unending when through our faith we abide in the infinite embrace of Jesus. “Led by this blessed hope,” the pastor concludes, “blood and iron won’t change this world… only Christ. Only Christ.”

Abundant Life Church

They say that the average attention span is down from 12 seconds in the year 2000 to eight seconds now. That is less than the nine-second attention span of your average goldfish. With this in mind you may wonder why the church keeps preaching after eight seconds when no one is paying attention. It turns out that our attention span is dependent on the subject and God has something very special to tell us.  Sunday, March 6, come to hear the most important thing you will ever be told. God speaking is pretty important and special, so pay attention!

You will also enjoy our services both on our Facebook page as well as our YouTube channel.

English Sunday service is at 10 a.m., also at abundantlifechapala.com. Abundant Life Church is affiliated with the Assemblies of God of Mexico and has services for everyone.
