Lake Chapala Baptist

Last Sunday Pastor John was back at the pulpit, full of life and the love of God. His sermon was all about turning trials into triumphs.

“James 1 gives us four imperatives for correctly walking the narrow way: a joyful attitude, an understanding mind, a surrendered will, and a believing heart. Our reward for perseverance using these high spiritual qualities? Nothing less than present blessing and future recognition.

“The real purpose of trials is to finish the work God started when He first conceived us. Never forget that every trial is a testing of your faith! Evaluate your trials in the light of God’s eyes, not your own. And find that path that totally trusts God.

“Christ is the goal to whom we will fly, we will bow, we will worship! Hide me behind the shadow of the cross, oh God!”

Share memorable weekly sermons, uplifting music and an ongoing thirst for true wisdom at 10:45 a.m. at the Lake Chapala Baptist Church. Santa Margarita 147, Riberas del Pilar.

Lakeside Presbyterian

Pastor Wayne, will talk this week about  “Plowing Furrows in the Sea”

It is sad to feel that all your labors were in vain.

Simon Bolivar was a Venezuelan military and political leader who led several South American countries to independence from the Spanish Empire. He is known as El Libertador, or the Liberator of America. Unfortunately he faced setbacks, opposition, poisoning, and exile. He got tuberculosis and was about to go into exile when he died a failure. He is said to have declared toward the end of his life, “I have plowed furrows in the sea.”

Jeremiah’s life was like that. He was called by God to a sorry congregation, the nation of Judah  He was considered a failure in his own generation, but later generations have said that despite his apparent lack of success, he was perhaps the greatest of the prophets. The Book of Lamentations contains five Songs of Grief about his heartbreak when God allowed Nebuchadnezzar to raze his country.

Service starting time is 9:30 a.m. for the English-language service and 11 a.m. for the Spanish-language service.

The live English service at Calle San Jorge 250 in Riberas del Pilar, also streams each Sunday on Facebook at Lakeside Presbyterian Church-Chapala or at lpc-chapala.org.

If you need a ride, call  376-106-0853 before 4 p.m. on Thursday.

There is coffee and refreshments after the service in the Narthex.

Abundant Life Church

What does it take for you to believe. There are some who are waiting for a voice from the sky or what they would call an ¨important¨ miracle for them to believe. The truth is that God has done so much that there really is no excuse for not believing. Through creation, the Bible, the testimony of the early church leaders and even the current fulfillment of prophetic events, everyone should believe.  Come Sunday, August 21, as Pastor Gary explains the origins of faith and why it is time to believe in Jesus.

English Sunday service is at 11 a.m., also at abundantlifechapala.com.

Abundant Life Church is affiliated with the Assemblies of God of Mexico. Bible study in English is held at 11 a.m. each Wednesday with Spanish language Bible studies on Friday at 6:45 p.m.
