‘Remote Online Notary’ to speak at LCS

Selecia Young-Jones, a Florida-commissioned notary and a “Remote Online Notary (RON),” will give an informational talk about notary and RON services Friday, November 18, noon, at the Lake Chapala Society in the garden.

Through innovation and legislation, (RON) has become a viable and legal solution to many notary needs. Both the client and the notary can’t always be present together and RON is a great way to accomplish many notarial acts.

As an American traveling anywhere in the world, you might need to have a document notarized and until recently, the only place to get that done was at a U.S. embassy or consulate. With RON, you can do it at your kitchen table, your office or even poolside at the resort of your vacation destination. You need an internet connection with your cell phone, tablet or computer with a camera and a microphone. You meet with the notary in a Zoom-type meeting to notarize your documents and receive an electronic box in which to sign your name. The notary places his or her signature and notary stamp onto the page and uploads it so you can download  a freshly notarized document.

Young-Jones will show you how some of the RON platforms work, how to upload documents and answer the Knowledge Based Authentication (KBA) security quiz. She will show you the types of identification that are accepted and how to include your ID in the process. There is no cost for this event.

“I look forward to meeting you and answering your questions about RON or anything notary. I am not an attorney and cannot give you legal advice,” says Young-Jones.
