St. Andrew’s holds musical Advent Lessons and Carols

St. Andrew’s Anglican Church invites public to a musical presentation of service of Advent Lessons and Carols, Saturday, December 10, 4 p.m. at the Church at the corner of Calles San Lucas and San Luis in Riberas del Pilar.

This is based upon the same service that you may have seen on television from Kings’ College, Cambridge in the UK. There is an organ prelude, a processional carol, opening prayer and then a series of seven lessons from both the Old and New Testaments that herald the coming of the Christ Child, interspersed with  seven Advent Carols such as the lively “Rui, Rui, Chiu” and the syncopated Jamaican inspired tune, “The Virgin Mary had a Baby Boy” as well as a beautiful rendition of “There is No Rose”. There is no sermon, no communion, just the lovely readings and beautiful music performed by the choir of St. Andrew’s under the direction of Rodrigo Leal, along with special guest flutist Juan Reyes. The congregation is asked to join in some of the carols and we end with Bach’s “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring.” Appetizers will be served after the event for which there is no charge.
