Unitarian Universalists

Sunday, July 14, The Unitarian Universalist (UU) Fellowship will hear a Ted Talk on “Embracing Joy.”

Joy shows up most often when we are present and open to the uncontrollable beauty of life. Joy recedes when we lose touch with the present, when we are so preoccupied with the future, with trying to control where things are going, that we can’t see what delights might be popping up right in front of us. We need to be more aware of “Embracing Joy” in our everyday lives. This service will help to encourage that awareness.

June Wilson is the service associate.

Sunday service is  at  noon, at the Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship’s new location at San Luis 19 in Riberas del Pilar (one block south of the previous address).

Lakeside Presbyterian

This week, Pastor Carolyn will talk about: “The Upside Down:” Text—John 18:14-40

Looked at in a certain way, everything about Jesus’ life on earth is contrary to common sense. How could God come to us as a baby (isn’t God infinite?), grow up and learn things (wouldn’t He already know?), live in near poverty (is anyone richer than God?), and die a humiliating death (how can the giver of life die?). This happened because Jesus came to undo all the evil and wrong that we humans have done, so He had to live totally contrary to expectations. We will see Him continue to unwind the results of our sin in our sermon this week from John 18 as Jesus is arrested and stands trial.

The English-language service is at 9:30 a.m., which also streams live at facebook.com/LPCChapala. Everyone is welcome to Wednesday drop-in Bible study. Calle San Jorge 250 in Riberas del Pilar, just south of Mom’s Restaurant, toward the lake.
