Unitarian Universalist
Rev. Matt Alspaugh will present “Making Our Way in the Universe: The Path of Religious Naturalism,” Sunday, September 20, noon at the Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship.
Religious naturalism begins with a naturalistic worldview, using science as a basis for understanding what is real. This it combines with a religious orientation, including spiritual feelings like wonder and gratitude, and values rooted in nature, such as cooperation within groups and balance in ecosystems. This combination appeals to those of us who approach the world both empirically and emotionally. We’ll explore some ideas of Religious Naturalism, and consider our origin and place in the universe.

Common Ground Fellowship / Little Chapel by the Lake
It has been said that most individuals live lives of quiet desperation. Do you think that is the type of life that God has planned for us? Please join us this Sunday as Dr. Ted Rogers continues his sermon series on the book of Romans by exploring the fullness of the life that God wants each of us to enjoy—Life as a sacrament instead of a slough of despond.
Saturday, September 26, the Chapala Gospel (Gideon’s Army) choir will celebrate its first anniversary and Gospel Music Heritage Month with a concert at 4 p.m. at the Chapel.
CGFLC is a bilingual, friendly, and all-inclusive place to worship our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We believe the church exists primarily for the benefit of those outside it as we seek to make Christ’s love known to others by serving our community in feeding ministries and various other forms of aid. We accept donations of clothing and non-perishable food items that go directly to families in need in our purple donation box in front of the Chapel. On Saturdays, we host a car wash fundraiser for Mama Cleo’s Boys’ Home 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and a Saturday outreach for poor children in Chapala.
Worship service at 11 a.m. includes a children’s church. And if you need computer, tablet or cell phone help, Luis Algarin is at the church Thursdays 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Chapala Theological Seminary offers free online classes in English and Spanish, where you can earn certificates or master’s degrees.

Christ Church Lakeside
Christ Church Lakeside invites you to join us this Sunday at 10:30 a.m. for worship and Holy Eucharist. Rev. Jim Powers will deliver the homily, “The Generous Landlord,” based on Matthew 20:1–16. Come and reflect with us on this thought-provoking Gospel lesson about God’s generosity, grace, and the ways we understand fairness and blessing.

We live in a broken world. Being a person of faith does not stop the onslaught of temptation of a self-centered life. If you struggle with temptation, have a temper that’s hard to control, you like to gossip, you hold a grudge, etc. You are not alone. Paul addresses this issue and we will explore his words this Sunday. There is a better way to live.
English-language service is at 10 a.m. at Constitución 26, in Ajijic, 2nd floor. Enter through the back garage area and walk upstairs. For those with limited mobility, there’s also a small elevator at the front. Join us for coffee and refreshments after the service.

Heart of Awareness
The Heart of Awareness Buddhist Community is open to everyone. Join us to cultivate a sense of community and strengthen your meditation practice at Guadalupe Victoria 101 in Ajijic. Chairs and cushions provided.
Sundays: Sitting and walking meditation, 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Wednesdays: One hour of sitting and walking meditation followed by a live teaching or video, and discussion: 3:45 to 6:15 p.m.
Thereafter, all are invited to enjoy dinner and socialize at a nearby restaurant.
Thursdays: Join our Book Study/Practice Group for sitting, reading, and discussion, 1 to 2:30 p.m. The Group is currently reading “Buddhism Without Beliefs” by Stephen Batchelor. Each session consists of: 20 minutes of meditation practice, 60 minutes for volunteer reading/sharing and 10 minutes of silent contemplation.
Sundays: Morning Practice with 30 minutes sitting, 15 minutes walking and 15 minutes sitting is from 9 to 10 a.m.
